Laboratory

We have over 12 years of experience in radioactive waste management, working in the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plan.

In 2015, MATE-FIN started the construction of a new office building in Cernavoda, including a fully equipped laboratory for the characterization of low and medium level radioactive waste. The project was completed in 2019 and the laboratory was authorized by the Romanian Regulatory Authority CNCAN (License No.: LI LICDR 01/2019).

Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for samples preparations and nuclear measurements:

Low background Alpha and Beta counter (P10 flow detectors)

Alpha spectrometry

Gamma spectrometry with HPGe detector and lead shielding

Liquid scintillation counter

Fully equipped chemical laboratory, including fume-hoods, special ventilation system and liquid waste disposal system

Our staff is highly qualified and knowledgeable of the characterization of radioactive waste:

  • Samples extraction of low and medium level radioactive waste
  • Preparation of samples for measurements
  • Radiochemical separations
  • Gamma spectrometry
  • Measurement specific global activity for Alpha/Beta emitters
  • Alpha spectrometry
  • Measurement of specific activity of H-3, C-14, Ni-63, Sr-90, Y-90
  • Application of the radioactive waste exclusion procedure
  • Determining the correlation factors between easy-to-measure nuclides (ETM), key nuclides and difficult-to-measure nuclides (DTM)

Our specialists have participated in national and international scientific events aimed at radioactive waste management, decontamination and decommissioning, and have also published specific scientific papers.
